Learning to Manage My Own Care

Virginia Garcia

Dear Friend

My name is Virginia García and I want to share with you how grateful I am to La Clínica for keeping me alive.

I’ve suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for many years. It is a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks my joints and comes with other health complications. At one point in my life, I was taking 20 pills a day to manage the terrible pain. I didn’t know what was worse: the pain or the side effects from all the pills. I began to think I would rather die than live with the pain or keep taking so many pills. I almost gave up on all doctors, but I decided to try one last time. I came to La Clínica, and I’m so glad I did!

I first chose to come to La Clínica only because the clinic is very close to my house. But from the moment I walked through their doors, I’ve always felt they’ve gone above and beyond to make sure I am living a happy and healthy life. I’ve been able to live well now because of the excellent care they’ve given me. My care team has been very involved in my health. When they notice something is off with my heart or lungs, they refer me to specialists and prevent it from developing into something severe.

In addition, my care coordinator ensures that I have transportation to all my appointments, have all my medication delivered to my house, and arranges for me to receive home visits. This is a huge help, especially when my rheumatoid arthritis flares up and it’s painful to move at all. I’ve been able to stay healthy since I found La Clínica. Thanks to my care team, I know what I can do to manage my health and feel in control. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here. I just thank God for La Clínica every day.
La Clínica is currently constructing an expanded health center in downtown Vallejo that’ll bring all services – including medical, dental, optical, and health education – into a single place. This will be life-changing for the many people like me who suffer from several health complications and don’t have anyone to take them to different clinics to see different doctors.

Your steadfast support makes experiences like mine possible. Thank you. I urge you to make a gift to La Clínica today so they can expand care for those who need it most in our community. Even a small amount can go a long way.
Kindly,
Virginia García
