“Extreme poverty anywhere is a threat to human security everywhere.” — Kofi Annan

Not everyone has access to the things you and I consider basic necessities: food, clothing, and shelter. Poverty is measured in different ways, but for those in developing countries, this means earning less than $2 per day. Children born into poverty have relatively few chances to escape the cycle of inequality.

Around 10% of the world’s population lives in extreme poverty and struggles with access to healthcare, education, clean water, and sanitation. Most people living below the poverty line live in Southern Asia or sub-Saharan Africa. In the U.S., 38.1 million people were living in poverty in 2018.

CFC charities working in this area help eradicate poverty by providing immediate necessities and opportunities for long-term success, such as career counseling and access to quality education and resources. Contributions, no matter the size, can go a long way in making a difference in the lives of those suffering from extreme poverty.
